Intro to our Phlock...

The two dozen people sitting in the dining room — nearly all of whom are clad in Hawaiian shirts and other tropical garb — just continue chomping their cheeseburgers and sipping their Coronas.

They’re not lazy. They’re mellow. Big difference.

Scratch that. They’re not merely mellow either. They are Parrotheads.

As Parrotheads, they belong to a very peculiar club — don’t call it a cult, even though it has many of the earmarks of one — and their flock is huge.

Their charismatic leader, Jimmy Buffett, croons from a flat-screen TV on the restaurant wall.

The simple definition of a Parrothead is this: a fan of Buffett, the guy who sang Margaritaville.

But the simple definition comes nowhere near summarizing the Parrothead phenomenon, a worldwide movement that boasts tens of thousands of devotees in garish, blindingly colourful clothes.

The local Parrotheads — known collectively as Parrots on the Grand — have gathered at the Edelweiss Tavern for their monthly meeting to eat, drink, chit-chat and engage in a bit of idol worship…
